Funeral Service Industry Vaccine Information
As you may be aware, due in large part to the lobbying efforts of the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), funeral service workers were categorized into the highest priority (Phase 1A) to receive the vaccine, back in early October.
Throughout 2020, the NFDA, along with its members, asked the National Academies of Science Engineering and Medicine (NASEM), that funeral directors receive priority access to the COVID-19 vaccine. In early October, the “Framework for Equitable Allocation of COVID-19 Vaccine” was released, which included funeral directors in the highest priority.
The Framework further defines Phase 1a as High-Risk Health Workers which include funeral directors:
“The committee also includes morticians, funeral home workers and other death care professionals involved in handling bodies as part of this high-risk group”.
An estimated 6.4MM vaccine doses have been authorized by the FDA to be distributed to 64 states, territories and major cities based on population. Each of these locations have been allocated certain amounts of the vaccine by the federal government, managed by the jurisdiction’s immunization program. You can find your state’s plan here: https://www.naco.org/covid19/vaccine-distribution-plans
As you know the Pfizer and Moderna vaccinations have now been approved for distribution. Have you and/or any of your colleagues been vaccinated? Are you scheduled to receive one?
We continue to hold a deep level of respect for all funeral service industry professionals, particularly in these trying times.
Happy Holidays to your families and staff families,
